FRENCH 75
WHAT WE THINK
Champagne Sundays are a very real thing at our house, and sometimes we get real extra and turn the bubbly into French 75 cocktails. It looks fancy but is WILDLY simple to make.
WHAT YOU NEED (MAKES 2 COCKTAILS, DO MATH IF YOU NEED MORE OR LESS)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
3 oz. gin (vodka also works if you’re not a gin fan)
3/4 oz. simple syrup (that’s what the sugar and water or for, we’ll get to that in a moment)
2 medium lemons
1 bottle dry champagne (look for the word ‘Brut’ on the bottle and it’s a safe bet)
cocktail shaker
ice
WHAT TO DO
CHILL YOUR GLASSES
A cold glass is a key component for French 75s. We recommend champagne flutes or any other 6-8 ounce glass for drinking these, but do whatever you want. Before we start on everything else, throw your glasses into the freezer to chill.
MAKE SIMPLE SYRUP (IF YOU DON’T HAVE IT ON HAND)
Pour your 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar into a saucepan over medium heat. Stir and bring to a simmer or until sugar is completely dissolved in the water. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Pour this into a jar or squeeze bottle and keep it stashed in your fridge for future cocktail creations.
FILL YOUR SHAKER
Toss the gin, simple syrup, and juice from the two lemons into your shaker with plenty of ice.
SHAKE YOUR SHAKER
Shake vigorously for a good 30 seconds or so.
START POURING
Grab those glasses out of the freezer.
Pour the contents of your shaker evenly between your two glasses.
Pop open your champagne and try not to hit any of your loved ones with the flying cork. Fill the remainder of your glasses with champagne, right up to the brim. Yes, you’ll have extra champagne which you get to drink after your French 75. Woohoo!
Garnish with a fancy ass curl of lemon peel if you want. We’re not gonna show you how to do this, we have faith that you can figure it out.
DRINK.
